Keep the kids busy these 2025 winter school holidays

Can you believe that we’re already halfway through the year!

It’s the perfect time to slow down, relax and enjoy some school holiday fun.

Whether it’s outdoor adventures or indoor escapes, Albury Wodonga is the ideal winter playground for families.

Pack a picnic and spend a relaxed afternoon by the river at Noreuil Park. Further down the River you’ll find Oddie’s Creek Adventure Park. An all-abilities playground with flying foxes, climbing walls and plenty of sandpit fun. Over in Wodonga, let the kids run wild at the Belvoir Park Playground or take a stroll around the lake. Watch the ducks, swans and geese swim by and if you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of some turtles.

Little explorers can get imaginative at the Albury Botanic Gardens’ Children’s Garden, complete with a life-sized dinosaur, fairy temples and a troll cave. Older kids will love the upgraded Albury Skate Park and the BMX tracks across the region.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, Enjoy a family ride along the High Country Rail Trail with scenic views of Lake Hume. Huon Hill Parklands and Eastern Hill Reserve are also great spots for a winter hike with the family, don’t forget to bring a camera to capture some stunning views along the way. See here for more ideas to inspire your next outdoor adventure.

When it’s too cold to be outside, there’s still plenty of fun to be had indoors. Regent Cinemas is screening all the latest family movies, and the Intencity arcade is a guaranteed hit once the credits roll.  If your crew loves a challenge, Escape Room Albury, is a fun way to test your problem-solving skills together or book a trip in cyberspace with Worlds Beyond.

There are also plenty of winter events and creative workshops to explore. Aurora Albury is back at the Botanic Gardens from 4 to 27 July, transforming the gardens into a glowing underwater wonderland.

The Albury LibraryMuseum, Hyphen Wodonga and Lavington Library all have school holiday programs packed with colour, creativity and hands-on activities. Programs vary depending on the day, so check what’s on before you visit. And if you’ve got creative teens, The Pumphouse is running a hands-on ceramics workshop on 15 July.

If you’re into history, make time for a visit to the Bonegilla Migrant Centre. Open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, it features scavenger hunts, interactive trails and the Finding Home exhibition. On 16 July, kids can get creative at the Cartooning Workshop, where they’ll learn how to draw native Aussie animals found in the Wodonga area. Don’t miss the chance to unwind at the picnic area, where kangaroos and other local wildlife are often spotted nearby.

Head to the Jindera Pioneer Museum and take a step back in time, exploring what life was like in the 19th century. To celebrate the upcoming Jindera Lantern Festival, the museum is hosting a family-friendly lantern-making workshop on 20 July, perfect for a fun and creative day out with the kids.
