Albury Wodonga Winter Solstice

5:00pm - 8:00pm, Sat 21st June 2025

On the longest night of the year, Survivors of Suicide and Friends host the Winter Solstice, bringing the community together in commemoration of those who have died by suicide.

To encourage candid conversations and to destigmatise the topic of suicide, the Winter Solstice creates a space to collectively share stories, support one another, and remember those lost.

This year’s Winter Solstice theme is “In Community Lies Strength”, highlighting the importance of community for those with real, lived experiences of mental health struggles.

Celebrated speakers include Leisel Jones, Gideon Haigh and Amanda Tattersall, with music by The Northern Folk and Indigenous artist Emily Wurramara.

At last year’s Winter Solstice, guest speaker Danielle Laidley’s resilience and vulnerability shone onstage as she invited the audience to “please walk a mile in her shoes.” She spoke with a deep personal honesty about her AFL career, her experience coming out as transgender, and the complexities around living her truth as ‘Danielle’ in the public eye.
“Your story is not any less important than mine… you are all leading the way in conversation, education, and connection”
