Wonga Wetlands
Bring your binoculars and get ready to enjoy a thriving ecosystem spanning 80 hectares of lagoons and billabongs. The Wonga Wetlands attract 150 varieties of birds, so keep your eyes peeled for egrets, spoonbills, cormorants, dollar birds, sacred kingfisher and yellow rosellas.

A peaceful lakeside park perfect for birdwatching, family strolls or a picnic among lush greenery. Walk around the lake or take up one of the many rest spots to sit and enjoy the many birds that call Belvoir Park home.
Wagirra Trail and Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk
This is where nature meets ancient culture. Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk follow the Murray River past wetlands, native bush and large-scale sculptures that tell soulful Wiradjuri stories. Walk or cycle the full 5.3km or just soak up a smaller stretch.

Gateway Island Parklands
Wander through billabongs and wetlands via accessible boardwalks and quiet bush trails. Gateway Island Parklands is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, this is a great spot for birdwatching, nature photography or just sitting by the river with a book.

Albury Botanic Gardens

Huon Hill – Kiewa River Hike
This three-hour circuit hike is a deep immersion in nature. Summit Huon Hill for a sprawling vista over the Kiewa Valley, Lake Hume, and the Murray River. You’ll spot plenty of birdlife and, on descent, some resident roo families.

Walk the trail, chill beneath towering river gums, listen to birdsong echo over the water or dip your toes in the shallows. The Albury Riverside Precinct is alive with wildlife. At golden hour, you might just spot a platypus if you’re lucky.

Whitehead Street Wetlands
A little further afield, a 45-minute drive west of Albury will take you to the Whitehead Street Wetlands in Corowa. The wetlands are a mecca for water-loving bird life, including brolgas and black swans.
Kengal Aboriginal Place
A dramatic sandstone outcrop that offers panoramic views of the Riverina landscape. Rich in cultural significance, Kengal is a sacred site for the Wiradjuri people. Explore walking trails up to the summit, where wildflowers bloom in spring and a terrific diversity of landscapes and animal habitats is waiting for you.
