The Royal Australian Navy Jazz Group comprises seven of the Navy’s finest musicians performing their own distinct versions of the great jazz repertoire from the 40s to the present.
Their diverse repertoire of vocal and instrumental jazz ranges from Swing, Be-Bop and New Orleans to Latin American standards, as well as visiting some of the great tunes of the pop era by such iconic names as Burt Bacharach and The Beatles.
The band represents the Royal Australian Navy nationally and around the world at concerts, community events and official Government functions. They have performed at many Australian Jazz festivals such as the Wangaratta International Jazz Festival and the Devonport Jazz Festival, have shared the stage with many world-renowned musicians including Don Burrows, James Morrison and Katie Noonan and have entertained Prime Ministers and Royalty.
The RAN Jazz Ensemble continues a proud tradition of representing the Royal Australian Navy.
The musicians are Able Seaman Maggie James (Voice), Leading Seaman Gregory Smith (Alto Saxophone), Petty Officer Cameron McAllister (Trumpet), Petty Officer Chris Palamountain (Tenor Sax), Petty Officer Joseph Wherrett (Guitar) and Able Seaman Haydn Murtagh (Double Bass).
