Keep the Kids Busy These 2025 Spring School Holidays

By Paige Deery

Spring has arrived in Albury Wodonga, and with it comes the school holidays

With longer days and warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to get outside, get creative, and make some memories together. Whether your crew is full of little adventurers, curious minds, or hands-on creators, there’s no shortage of ways to keep them engaged. From action-packed outings and crafty workshops to relaxed family time in the sunshine, this guide is packed with ideas to keep everyone entertained during the holiday period.

Parks, Picnics & Outdoor Play

Start with a picnic at Noreuil Park, a riverside favourite. Make the most of the sunshine with a day at Oddies Creek Adventure PlaySpace, where flying foxes, climbing walls, and sandpits promise hours of fun. Over in Wodonga, Belvoir Park is a family favourite, with two playgrounds, a ninja-style obstacle course, and wide-open spaces perfect for a picnic or a game of tag.

For something magical, visit the Children’s Garden at the Albury Botanic Gardens, where a life-sized dinosaur guards fairy temples, troll caves and water play zones. If you’re there on Sunday 21 September, stick around for Music in the Gardens Presents Pirritu. It’s sure to be a relaxed afternoon of live music under the trees.

Adventurous families can hire a canoe or kayak from Murray River Canoe Hire, take a scenic walk through Wonga Wetlands, or hike to panoramic views at Huon Hill Parklands.

Shows, Workshops & Creative Fun

Spring holidays bring a full calendar of family-friendly performances. At the Albury Entertainment Centre, catch:

Over at The Cube Wodonga, kids can join a Musical Theatre Holiday Workshop or enjoy the hilarious Signor Baffo on 1 October.

Libraries and galleries are bursting with hands-on fun. At Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery, highlights include The Vegetable Plot performance and songwriting workshop, plus drop-in art sessions like Paper Cactus Creations. Meanwhile, Albury LibraryMuseum is hosting Lego challengesgrass head crafts and a Teddy Bear Sleepover Party.

For a change of pace, JW Equestrian is offering school holiday programs where kids can ride one of their horses or bring their own. They cater for under 5s and beginners, making it a welcoming space for little animal lovers. On 26 September and 6 October, they’re also running kids’ painting workshops, perfect for those who want to spend time outdoors and get hands-on with something creative.

Indoor Fun & Active Play

If the weather turns, there’s still plenty to do indoors. Bounce off the walls at Bounce Wodonga, skate into fun at the Albury Skating Centre, or let little ones explore at Rumble Tumbles. Older kids can test their puzzle-solving skills at Escape Room Albury or LOKT Escape Rooms. Try something new at Sneaky Cat Pickleball in Thurgoona.

Catch a movie at Regent Cinemas, then head downstairs to Intencity Arcade for games galore. For something different, check out This is Your City, starting at HotHouse Theatre this a live game-meets-digital adventure that turns Albury Wodonga into a playground for curious minds to explore.

And if your kids have energy to burn, Tuff Nutterz is popping up in Albury from 27 September to 1 October, with giant inflatable obstacle fun for all ages.

History & Hands-On Learning

Step back in time at the Bonegilla Migrant Experience, open daily with scavenger hunts, interactive trails, and the Finding Home exhibition. On 4 October, families can roll up their sleeves for a Handmade Gnocchi Workshop. Kids and grown-ups alike can get a little messy while learning how to make fresh, fluffy gnocchi from scratch, then dish it up with a tasty tomato-based sauce to enjoy together.

If you’re in the mood for more time-traveling adventures, head out to the Jindera Pioneer Museum. Just a short drive from Albury, it offers a fascinating glimpse into 19th-century village life, with original buildings, vintage machinery and one of the oldest cottages in the district. The perfect stop for curious kids and history-loving families alike.

 Food, Treats & Family-Friendly Dining

After all that action, appetites will be big. For a relaxed lunch, Retro Lane Café offers sandwiches, slices, and coffee alongside free arcade games and a pool table. Every second Sunday at Hovell Tree Park, the ovens are fired up and ready for DIY pizza-making. An Oven Coordinator is there to help, so all you need to bring is your ingredients and creativity.

When dinner time rolls around, families are warmly welcomed at Soden’s Hotel and the SS&A Club, both offering kids’ menus and play spaces to keep little ones entertained. Over at Brady’s Railway Hotel, you’ll find classic pub favourites served alongside an enclosed outdoor playground and fun activity sheets for kids.

No adventure is complete without something sweet and luckily, there are tempting options on both sides of the border. If you’re in Wodonga, swing by Topolino Gelateria at Junction Place for handcrafted gelato and sorbet made fresh daily. It’s the perfect spot to cool down and treat yourself to bold flavours and creamy textures.

Back in Albury, locals love Monumental Ice Creamery, where the menu is always changing and the hardest part is choosing between their inventive gelato and refreshing sorbet. Whichever you pick, you’re in for a delicious break that hits the spot.
