Robyn Barrow is a local artist who has been working with textiles for more than 40 years.

Warp and Weft is a series of delicate weavings inspired by the textiles that Robyn connected with on a trip to India in 2019.

Using unconventional metallic thread to create these sculptural forms, she explores the textural and reflective qualities of the fibre.

Warp and weft are the two basic components used to weave yarn or thread into fabric. The warp yarns are held in place on the loom while the transverse or horizontal yarn – the weft is woven over and under the warp to create the fabric.

Robyn studied textile design and has participated in many short courses with Master Weavers, travelling on textile tours to India, Lao, Italy and France. She is interested in the inherent meditative aspects of weaving which is an important part of her practise. She usually works with natural and traditional fibre such as cotton and linen but has been experimenting with weft materials such as metallic thread, copper wire and stainless steel. She is also interested in experimenting with the warp and weft in her weaving practise.
