Thu, 14th September 2023

The Australian Ballet is delighted to be bringing a program of classical favourites and contemporary pieces on tour. The 2023 Australian Ballet On Tour will feature Act III of The Sleeping Beauty.

Sleeping Beauty follows the story of Princess Aurora. When the bad fairy Carabosse is not invited by the King to the Princess’ christening, she casts a spell on the Princess that will mean she will die if pricked by a needle from the age of 16. The King tries to protect his daughter by banning all needles in the Kingdom, however, Princess Aurora accidentally pricks her finger on her sixteenth birthday.

One hundred years later, a handsome prince stumbles upon the Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora, where she is awoken from her sleep and witchcraft is defeated.

The event features Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous score alongside dazzling tutus and beloved characters, The Sleeping Beauty will leave you spellbound.

The program also features two contemporary pieces; Lucas Jervies’ The Vow, framed through the universally recognised scene of a wedding, The Vow explores the complications of love and the idea that partnership is a choice, not a destiny and a brand-new work, created by renowned choreographer Stephanie Lake to commemorate our diamond jubilee.
