Bright and Ovens Valley

Bright
Witness Bright’s deciduous trees in their breathtaking autumnal splendour, and return throughout the year to take advantage of the village’s proximity to Victoria’s Alps, national parks and home-grown food and wine. Bright is famous for its 12-day Autumn Festival in April, when the town is saturated with colour.
Two-wheel action is superb around Bright, whether you’re a road cyclist or a mountain biker. Cruise the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail through the Ovens River Valley, or challenge yourself on the Alpine Ascent.
Base yourself in Bright for winter snow activities, and return in spring and summer for hiking, kayaking, and even ballooning over the Alpine National Park. In summer the Ovens River is dammed to create swimming pools, and there is a lifeguard on duty. The cool water doesn’t dampen enthusiasm among those queuing at the waterslides in Centenary Park, which also has a fantastic playground.
Visit boutique wineries, stock up on stunning produce and taste local ingredients in village cafés. Beer lovers will delight in Bright Brewery in the heart of town, which overlooks the river, park and mountains. Opt for the sample-sized beers, presented on a timber tray with tasting notes. Great times are also to be had at the town’s quirky cafes and restaurants, which make good use of seasonal produce. A highlight is the award-winning Simone’s Restaurant.

Myrtleford
Beautiful scenery, tranquillity, rivers and mountain views will enchant visitors to Myrtleford. Mount Buffalo creates a dramatic background for the town, and the Myrtleford Visitor Information Centre has several free handouts on this majestic national park.
Lake Buffalo is one of Myrtleford’s greatest assets – a local treasure that isn’t widely known. It’s the perfect spot for a barbeque and a day of boating, skiing, fishing or swimming.
The town is a flourishing commercial hub for the hops, timber and viticulture industries.
