Beechworth

The drive to Beechworth is stunning and so is the town’s heritage streetscape. Streets are graced with interlocking canopies of established trees and quaint, character-filled cottages. Following the discovery of gold in 1852, Beechworth flourished. It is still Victoria’s best-preserved goldmining town. The legacy of this is preserved in the many historic buildings and heritage areas, with their wide, tree-lined avenues and shady wooden verandahs. Beechworth offers renowned regional cuisine, excellent cool climate wines and great cafes and fine restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. It is also a land of temptation on the retail front. The town’s inherent style can be seen in every store, and the shoes, clothes, jewellery, art, antiques and homewares will challenge the most disciplined spender.

The area is one of outstanding natural beauty, with endless opportunities for lovers of the great outdoors to explore the trails and back roads of the Beechworth Gorge, Beechworth Historic Park, Stanley State Forest and Chiltern Mount Pilot National Park.

Yackandandah

Yackandandah, classified by the National Trust, is set amidst the stunning hills of north-east Victoria. The tiny, close-knit town has a fantastic folk festival and is brimming with arts, crafts and antiques, quirky clothing shops and great beer gardens. It’s a relaxed, welcoming and creative place with a sense of fun.
