The Bonegilla Story

01/01/12 - 01/05/12
Experience the rich history of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre...

Operating from 1947 to 1971, the Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was the first, largest and longest-operating migration reception centre in Australia.

Some 320,000 migrants and refugees from more than 30 countries passed through the gates at Bonegilla, seeking temporary accommodation and support as they made the transition to life in Australia.

This exhibition shares the stories and experiences of these people, and pays tribute to their contribution to the formation of our multicultural society.
